Postcards for the weekend 14: Lighthouses

Direct Swap, Sent: 21 Nov 2012
Sent from Black Forest region, Germany, Traveled 22 days

A maritime gem; this lighthouse is the first building to be erected on the sea floor. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1986. It's accessible though for day trips and for rent to those who fancy a night or two in an isolated hotel.

As mentioned in the websites where I read about the Roter Sand or Red Sand Lighthouse / Hotel -- staying here is back to basics as there's no electricity nor heating system.

This third card looks like a nice marketing poster for Roter Sand. I'm not sure I'm brave enough for that experience even though this image looks enticing.

PS. I'm very sorry for accidentally deleting the linky for the previous week. I searched for a way to revert it on the linkytools website but to no avail. I am sending a message to the admin and we'll see from there :(

  2. Love those turrets at the top, I can imagine watching the wild waves from there although the sea look beautifully calm on the postcards. I wonder if anyone gets a longer stay than expected when visiting due to the weather, it is to be hoped that the kitchen is well stocked.

    1. Hi Joy I heard that guests must prepare to stay for longer than intended. And ditto! I wish for them that the kitchen is well stocked if that happens.

  3. I thought that sounded quite exciting until I read the 'no heating' bit!

  4. This is a favourite theme of mine. Actually, I started to be a postcrosser because of lighthouses. so thank you very much for the linky party today.

I love that you have three postcards of the same lighthouse. I have to see different views, or artworks. The third is really beautiful.

I checked on the link... a bit expensive for my budget! :D

  5. Maria, I sure enjoyed your lighthouse postcards! I like the way you give us the info on how far the card traveled and how long it took. Interesting! Thank you for hosting the link up and for your kind comment on my blog. Re the Beavertail Lighthouse ... I don't really know what the other buildings are for. Perhaps it is also a meterological station? Or perhaps there are caretakers who lived there. By now it is probably all automated and I wonder if the other buildings are still there. Thanks for the good question! Wishing you a fine week ahead! PS Rec'd your latest wonderful postcard. Thank you so much! Wow, February will be here before you know it ... please keep in touch!
