V is for Vienna, Austria

Friendship Gift Postcard, Sender: Sensei
Sent: 9 October 2013 from Vienna, Austria
Received: 17 October 2013, Traveled 9,880.5 km in 9 days

Vienna is a city I dream I can be based in for work. It's such a lofty dream but as the saying goes, "the future is made of the dreams you make today".

Aside from professional aspirations, I feel being in Vienna will make me happy . The place will strike a balance for doing a technical job and living in an artistic environment!

The historic center of Vienna was inscribed to the UNESCO WHS list in 2001.

Hallstatt is a village located near a lake. It is known for the production of salt since the prehistoric times. It is situated in the southwest of the Hallstätter Sea, characterized by a landscape of the beautiful Alps in the background rising from narrow valleys.

Aside from the beautiful landscape, the area is also of notable scientific interest. It contains evidence of continuous evolution of fundamental human economic activity covering 2500 years.

It was recognized as a UNESCO WHS in 1997

As mentioned in my post from yesterday, I got 22 postcards on Friday and these 2 are among them. My sensei (former professor and thesis advisor at the Graduate School) traveled to Austria and Germany recently and sent me 5 postcards from Vienna and 2 from Braunschweig. It's really cool cause I've only got 2 official postcards from Austria so far. I've got a lot from Germany but the two he sent me are the only ones I have from Braunschweig.

These cards features the spire of the St. Stephen's Cathedral. According to Uncle Wiki, it is the mother church of the Roman Archdiocese of Vienna and the seat of Archbishop of Vienna. It's of Gothic and Romanesque architecture and one of the most recognizable symbols of Wien (Vienna).

On the second card, it's seen from the palace complex of Belvedere, which means 'beautiful view'.

I am dreamy right now of walking on the streets of Vienna under a clear blue sky. Hopefully, in the future!

Austrian & Finnish stamps

20 years Kunst Haus Wien commemorative stamp from Austria
The stamp is glittery, the first of its kind that I have so far. The Kunst Haus displays a unique Friedensreich Hundertwasser collection. The museum used to be a furniture factory transformed by the artist into his characteristic style of mosaics using glass, metal, bricks, wood, and ceramic in many colors.

Torronsuo from Finland's National Park Stamp Series
The Torronsuo National Park was established in 1990, covering 30 km in the province of Häme, south of Finland. It includes a mire that is considered the deepest in the country with up to 12-meter thick layer of peat.

I am linking up with Viridian for the Sunday Stamps. Visit her page today and next Sunday to learn more about European stamps.
